I know that its not winter yet but last winter I had hell with my valves freezing and sticking. So to get ahead of the game I was wondering if any one had tips to keep them from freezing and or sticking this winter.
Go to your local hard ware store and pick up a bottle of air tool oil or your local truck stop and get air brake antifreeze. Either works. I have used air tool oil in mine and it seems to work great and it gets below zero here in the winter.
WATER TRAPS ALWAYS HELP OUT ALOT...ALSO A DRAIN PORT ON YOUR TANKS TOO!
I have 2 water traps drain them every day
Dont mean a thing when its cold enough out they freeze.
And beware of the air brake anti-freeze i heard it eats the seals in the valves.
So with out knocking anybodys help what is a way to do it with out causing any more harm to the valves.
Keeping moisture out of your system is key. Obviously, a water trap will help, but because they're so close to the compressor in most installations, moisture that is suspended in the hot air will make it past and into your system.
Drain your tanks frequently! And add a little bit of air tool oil to the tank so it will be distributed throughout your system. The oil will displace the water in your valves, which should help...
The ultimate solution would be to run nitrogen- same reason a lot of tire shops are moving to nitrogen filling for tires- no moisture!
