I'm lookin at makin my truck right hand drive. The ? i have is with the steering box. Someone told me that any steering box will work jus flipped and make your own linkage but i find that hard to believe. Won't i have to have a right hand drive steering box or when i turn left i'd actually be turning right correct? I'm not real sure about this but it's something me and my buddy who's helping me build the truck wanted to look into. Any help would be great on this thanx in advance
someones got to have some input on this
insted of mounting the steering box to the inside of the frame like it is you have to mount it to the outside of the frame rail
I used a rack and pinion. That was a rear steer and fliped it to the front witch made it a rhd front steer.
The steering box will turn left and right correctly no matter what side of the frame it's mounted on, but the flat mounting surfaces are designed for the left frame rail, so you can either mount it outside the frame on the right or make a bracket to mount it solidly on the inside. Same with the idler for the other side.
Other option is a rhd rack and pinion- i believe Flaming River makes them in several widths. That would be a nice upgrade in addition to making the rhd swap easier...
Good luck either way!

I have a right hand drive s-10 of mine I did for Reso last year and now it is just sitting. If you want some idea PM me. On the steering gear box, you cant just flip it. I used a box out of an 84 Toy since it mounted on the outside of the frame rail on the Toy it would mount on the inside of the right side of my s-10. The rest is just little stuff, move the direction of the pitman arms etc. PM me.
I just used a rack and pinion as well. Find one thats out of a car/truck thats has it mounted behind the axle and rotate it 180 degrees.
