Coils in hard brake lines, purpose?

I'm putting new brake lines on the Impala and was just wondering what the coils in the line that comes down from the master cylinder are for. Are they just to take slack out of the line? Or is there a certain amount of coils that have to be made and will making too many cause any worries?

Thanks for the help,

Spencer

From what i have been told the coils and bends and shit that are in brake lines are necessary for the correct pressure in the system

The coils are there because your master cylinder is mounted to your body, and the other end of the line is mounted to the frame. The coil allows for a bit of flex between the two without fatiguing or damaging the lines.
As I finished typing that, though, I realized that my Scion had coils in the lines, and it was a unibody, so maybe I'm wrong!

OK, his reasoning works pretty good, too! Having equal lengths of line from the left front and right front wheel makes good sense... anyone have a definite answer?

x2 i might actually take that in consideration considering imma be running my brake lines in a few weeks (hopefully)

it has absolutely nothing to do with pressure. pressure is constant regardless of length of the line since oil is incompressible.

the coils are for vibration only. even on a unibody, ther will be vibration. if it were straight there could be a chance of hardline failure. so the manufacturers put them there

i was told so both left and right lines would be of equal length
