I've been hearing more about underslung frames, and they look interesting to me. clean look, i like the idea of not having a notch above your axle. but I can't see any way to get good lift with them. so basically, why do people do them? is there any actual advantages to them? or is it just a personal preference deal?

One way to get lift is to make ur setup a true cantilever setup or another way is to notch the frame on the top side for where the frame would hit the axle... But it depends on if u really care bout how much lift u get in the rear or not...

it can only get as much lift as the axle will let it.... it will hit it sooner or later.
never seen the point in crazy lift anyways though, so I would be down for one!

it will get you driveable. with the frame setup that way you usually only get 1:1 lift.

Just remember, bigger wheels = more room for lift!! Go big!!

couple of things to think about - you lift will be limited by the size of your wheels. if you are running big wheels, this would work better.
building a frame this way could also make it hard to setup a 4 link correctly since all of the frame is underneath the axle, unlike a conventional notch setup where you have mounting points above and below the axle to mount the link bars. i know it can be done correctly, but it will not be as easy.

well, i wasn't really planning on building one. the thought of them intrigued me. i like the look. but i was more of just wondering if the set up has any actual purpose or any advantages other than visual.
