how can i figure out a general set up as far as settings on my camera? its got the manual focus, with aperature settings, and all that. I just don't know how to set it all to get it to get blurry farther away in the pic, so it's focused on one object.

Anyone have a website on how to get started? any general numbers?

one thing you can also try that's simple is to press the button only half way to focus on a certain object and then press the button all the way when you have the shot you want. if you tell the camera to focus on that object and keep it held half way you will notice if you move the camera other objects will remain blurry. mess around with that a bit and see how that works for you.

so something like 2.8? What ISO should I be shooting with if its a sunny day around lunch or so? Something like 200? Also, wouldn't the smaller number open the aperture the most, and have more of the b/g in focus? Rather then only focus on the ride, and start to blue the b/g?

On sunny days I usually shoot at 100, but definitely not any higher than 200.

You were also told correctly about aperture.

Just get out there and play with the settings and take pics... you will soon learn what you are doing.
