what all is actually needed to crank the motor?
im guessing alternator/battery/starter /coil/ignition setup/oil pressure gauge/ fuel pressure gauge/timing light/and of course carb adjustments.
is this all? it's a flat tappet cam/lifter setup, so I don't have the beauty of starting a roller motor for the first time. i plan on having everything wired and crap, and either taking it to my engine builder, or a little home based mechanic some friends use for getting it cranked/tuned/running good.
make sure to drain the oil first!
thanks for another smart ass remark! now....for some actual help....
just wanting to make sure i have everything where it should be so i dont have to run back and forth between, or tow it back and forth even
if its a new cam u have to idle it at 2k for a while.
yah, thats what ive been told quite a bit. i just dont want to go through that whole process without someone around that knows what they are doing. I surely don't know what I am doing with it. I figured if I could get everything wired enough to crank it and run it in neutral anyways, that would be good enough to break in the cam and seat the rings. Am I thinking right?
flat tappet cams are tempermental, usually your cam will come with some first time tips...... use some 15-40 on the first run too..... rotella baby!!
engine builder filled her up with oil when he built it, so the oil should be perfect for the motor/cam whatever to get it all running right.
dump it all out after that first run right? and put in some regular oil for 500 miles, and change again? or do i run the first batch of oil for 500 miles?
Not sure what it takes but I hope I have to do that shortly also.
oh, and $3.00 a gallon gas
Thought I'd add my smart ass comment also
i cant wait to get my motor back to fire it up, gonna be awesome, 19 gallon fuel cell, hope to get 90 miles on a tank
