[Special]-[Past Shows/Events]-TEXAS HEATWAVE 2010
I'll have pics up soon as I get my site up again. Also have you all been to other shows? Yes its a few bucks more but heat wave gives you more and tries it best to entertain everyone. Everyone said they wanted to do camping, and they went to court for it, and lost, but did the next best thing and gave you a party all night, it cost them a bunch to do it and all they wanted was to break even. It was BYOB and as far as I saw they stopped no one with a cooler that was going into the show Sat night. As far as the cooler thing during the day, that was all because of the expo center itself are greedy fuckers and made it part of the contract. THW didn't stop a single person with a cooler that had a towel or something over it no matter how obvious it is that it was a cooler. There are no perfect shows out there, but complaining and not helping find a solution isn't doing any good but killing the minitrucking community that much more. Heck I could say that when I went to tex mex, that when it started to rain everyone working the show bailed so I was stuck in traffic for over 3 hours, which caused me to be late for work, and how the planning sucked and all that stuff, which is very true, but I'll be back to support it even though I was pissed at <ST> and everyone that was involved with the show. Lets work on making things better instead of talking crap with no better solution. You can call the Heat Wave office 90% of the time and talk to David himself, tell him your frustrations, or bounce some ideas to make things better. Sorry I went longer than I had planned for this…

[Ask A Pro]-[Ask Max]-Solid 4 link bars.....
as far as unsprung weight, if I was adding up unsprung weight, you would take 1/2 the weight of the bar itself, right?
So a 1" solid bar would be easier to bend tubing say 1" with a 1/4" wall?
BTW, i'm not planning on doing this, just curious about it.
Thanks

[Ask A Pro]-[Ask Max]-best setup 1 ton dually
I am running a standard parallel 4 link with bag over axle. The largest i've towed is a 2 car enclosed trailer with 1 vehicle and a crap load of car/race parts. I do have double convoluted bags which are used on some Semi trucks, and i've seen them on some large dump trucks and some train cars. 7800LB. Works great with a load, but with no load, its to much and is a bit bouncy. I've got a cab & chassis rear that i'm going to be putting on it soon, and moving the 4 link bars to the inside of the frame. Just got to finish doing the disk brake conversion on it.
I'll get some of the construction pics up tonight or tomorrow.

From what i've "heard". You will need to get either 86 or 88 1-ton moog ball joints to make it work. Its smaller taper to fit the 1/2 ton spindle and has the correct bolt pattern for the 1-ton arms. (I think they are the same as the 3/4 but not 100% sure) You WILL need moog ones, i have the conversion on a 1/2 ton and it wont' lay cause of cheap ball joints. (It was done when i got the truck so thats why i'm not sure on the year)

I didn't see the show, but most of the ones i've seen done on trucks are just 2 links and they use the wishbone only to center it. I see no reason for it. A panhard bar or a watts link will work just fine and you don't have to worry about lubing or metal on metal wearing out.
If you are building a trailer queen or just running it down the strip i guess it would be fine since you don't have the day 2 day abuse of potholes, bumps, etc...

[Trucks]-[MiniTruckin General]-BYC revisited
I've have talked to mike for years. I remember the days before the dogsled back when he had the streached mazda. I've been a minitrucker for 14 years, and have seen ALLOT.
1. Many people don't remember the years and years that Mike helped people online, part #, suggestions etc before BYC. He helped a crap load of people and never asked for a cent for it.
2. Mike got behind, he admited it, and basically admited to fucking up. Its not a easy buisness and most shops just pack up and leave and just do something else, like bikes, or whatever. I have yet to hear anyone get $ from aim and they screwed over thousands of people.
3. I have ordered 3 sets of arms, took a while to get in, and had issues with one that he took care of with no problem.
4. Child support, I'm here wtih step kits and see maybee 100 bucks a month at the most. The fact that he does anything is good. Yes its not good to get behind, but i'm sure most of yall have been late on a few bills in the past. Not to mention its really non of anyone's buisness here. This has turned into a dayum daytime talk show with all the BS people talk.
5. Mike- Calm down, do what you can and let your actions speak, no since in stiring up the pot here on ssm.
6. Why in the world are all these people who has never done any buisness with him even on this tread?
7. Give Mike some time, no one can get caught up that quick.

[Trucks]-[Toyota Trucks]-85 yota gas question/problem
I did some trading and got a 85 yota for our shop truck. One problem is after it sits for a while its hard to start, kinda like its having to pump gas back up the line. A little gas in the carb makes it start right up, or if I just crank on it a while it will eventually start. This is only when it sits for a 12+hours. If its only off a few hours it starts right up. Any ideas? My guess is a fuel pump.

What is your ultimate goal? Sometimes got to look at why you got a minitruck to start with. I remember looking at minitruckin mag 16 years ago and wanting one and how inspiring it was. Sometimes I have to go to back issues to remember this myself.

[Trucks]-[MiniTruckin General]-Whats wrong with my suspension?
A certified welder doesn't mean they know anything about suspension systems.
-rear axle could be 2 far forward causing binding in the rear of the tranny
-panhard bar should be turned 90 at least on one side
Put the truck on jack stands and lower it down and turn the rear.. (not with u under it) see when it starts to grind then go under and see if u can move it by hand to see if u find where its grinding. I've seen good shops miss some trim work cause they rush it to much, but i'd say with the front and rear issues, its more than just a "rush" job.

[Suspensions]-[Air Ride Suspensions]-What is steering Ackermann?
Taken from Wiki
When a vehicle is steered, it follows a path which is part of the circumference of its turning circle, which will have a centre point somewhere along a line extending from the axis of the fixed axle. The steered wheels must be angled so that they are both at 90 degrees to a line drawn from the circle centre through the centre of the wheel. Since the wheel on the outside of the turn will trace a larger circle than the wheel on the inside, the wheels need to be set at different angles.
The Ackermann steering geometry arranges this automatically by moving the steering pivot points inward so as to lie on a line drawn between the steering kingpins and the centre of the rear axle. The steering pivot points are joined by a rigid bar, the tie rod, which can also be part of the, for example, rack and pinion steering mechanism. This arrangement ensures that at any angle of steering, the centre point of all of the circles traced by all wheels will lie at a common point.
Modern cars do not use pure Ackermann steering, partly because it ignores important dynamic and compliant effects, but the principle is sound for low speed manoeuvres.

[Suspensions]-[Air Ride Suspensions]-Reverse 4-Link Guys
I've got to argue and turn away people all the time at my shop because they want stuff like reverse links/2 links, etc. Normally I can explain to them the bad effects and get them to change their mind, but not always. Max is great at explaining the bad effects. I think most people just get it in their head that that is the "only" or "best" way to do it. When I bagged the first taco many people said the only way to link a taco is to do a rear 4-link, (around here) I was thinking WTF that can't be true. Just 2 many people bolt in a system and think they know EVERYTHING about suspension. I've been air bagging rides for 10 years now and I still don't know everything, hell i'd say I still don't know 1/2 of what there is to know. LOL

just sayin alot of people now adays are just in a rush to get their trucks laid out. Just step back, save a few more bucks and relocate that gas tank. The pay off is way more worth it then reverse 4 link systems.

Not to say that since u 2 linked your full size you are #1. Come on! I'm sure disney.com and other sites like that may be better for you. There are lots of dumb asses on just about any site you go to.
Hate is saying stuff about stuff you can't change, skin color, or maybee i'll even go as far as the type of vehicle you may have purchased.
The only main issue with the site is dumb comments, like....
Q. I want to lower my "brand x" truck, anyone know of anyone who makes suspension parts for it?
A. I know belltech makes lowering stuff, but they don't make anything for your truck.
There is ALLOT of this kind of stuff. Ow well, just my 2 cents.

Ebay and craftsman. Craftsman is decent price and you get a great warentee. SnapOn, Matco, Etc are better, but for the price if yer starting out, then go at least craftsman. Ebay craftsman tools are cheap. Also make friends with the local pawn shops, I did some free work for a guy that managed one about 10 years ago, its paid for itself time and time again. I've gotten lots of hand tools, gear wrenches, etc from there and more air saws, air chissels etc than I can even remember.

Just got to home depot and get some some 2x4 and stack them so you have 4x4 and get a eyelet from the fence department and your good. Be sure to use treated wood so you don't have to worry about the weather, or you can paint it to match your truck.

I like conitech over any other bag, yes, even over slams. But if your blowing that many air lifts, then might want to check to see if its rubbing or something is in a bad angle. I've hopped my old mazda with air lift bags and never had a problem, but then again, I don't use them on customer trucks. Maybee some pics of yer setup would give clues on why they blew.

You probally have the rear to far back, The reasoning, With chevy the front suspension pulls back when its laid out, soooooo, if you use the front to measure from and u have it laid out, then the rear suspension would be 2 far back. I would bring up the front of the wishbone up a little, doesn't need to be parralel, but just below it would be fine.

I just started to use FBI sheetmetal this last year, and while its not allways perfect, its great for the price. I havn't personally used any Grant stuff, but have heard mostly good things about them. If your saving a 100 bucks, then go with FBI, if its 5 bucks, then go with the grant. I've also used stuff from Guage and that sucked so bad that it never got installed. It was about as thin as a coke can, and was missing part of the body line.

[Trucks]-[Isuzu]-Isuzu's on 22's?
That brings back some memories. They did allot with the isuzu trucks and some of us are still trying to catch up. Respect can be for others that have done it, and can be for new people. I'm setting mine up for 20s up front and 22 in rear, but I can get away with that since its a amigo, and I don't have to worry about it comming out of the bed. I'm sure people will go bigger, there is allways someone, and it may look good, may not, depending on how its done. I liked some thigns on the DIB nissan and didn't like other parts, as a whole it was executed pretty well though.

Ok, you go from it about killed some guy, to now it happend to you. Whats next? The same thing happend to everyone in your family? Also it says in your profile that you do all you and your friends do all of your own work, so if it did happen to you, you have no one to blame exept yourself, cause you also said you were no expert.
Ow yea, blowjax, is aim, just cause someone else sells it doesnt' mean its no longer aim. If I buy something from sears, craftsman wrench, and sell it to you, it doesn't mean its no longer a sears product. Ow yea, and BTW, i've seen MANY cylinders brake, on Hondas, and Neons.

I do know the B2600 and B2200 tranny is different, at least the bell housing, but i'm pretty sure its all different. I know one of the Kia motors will bolt to the B2200, or u could just get a B2600 tranny and fab up all new mounts.

[Trucks]-[Chevy/GMC Trucks]-Suicide Help!
HOW TO KILL YOURSELF
A META-GUIDE
GOALS
This text attempts to establish unambiguous criteria by which potential suicide
methods can be judged. This text does not attempt to list or evaluate all
known suicide methods. A
comprehensive list
of suicide methods is maintained
by the alt.suicide.holiday newsgroup.
CRITERIA
For a suicide method to be Church of Euthanasia approved, it must be:
QUICK
PAINLESS
CERTAIN
DISCREET
SAFE
ACCESSIBLE
TIDY
RATIONALE
QUICK: Fast methods cause less psychological anguish, and provide lessopportunity
to "chicken out". Why be unnecessarily tormented by doubts and second thoughts?
An ideal method would be essentially instantaneous.
PAINLESS: The Church of Euthanasia opposes suffering, even for humans. Therefore
a Church-approved method must be at least painless, if not outright enjoyable.
CERTAIN: A failed suicide usually results in close surveillance, or even
confinement to a mental hospital, greatly reducing the odds of a successful
second attempt. In addition, many suicide methods have the potential to
cause severe suffering if unsuccessful, in the form of irreversible organ
damage, disfigurement, and so forth. An ideal method would be 100% certain
to cause death, with no chance of mere injury.
DISCREET: Many methods would be effective under ideal conditions, but in
practice have too great a risk of detection. No matter how promising the
method may be from other perspectives, it is useless unless you can get away
with it.
SAFE: Safe to others, not you! The Church of Euthanasia only supportsVOLUNTARY
population reduction. An ideal method would have zero chance of "collateral
damage" to other living things.
ACCESSIBLE: No matter how nifty a method sounds, it doesn't do you anygood
if you can't obtain it, and obtain it discreetly at that.
TIDY: Don't be selfish! If you make a nasty mess, someone will have to discover
it, and clean it up too. That someone could be a friend or family member.
Most people aren't trained to deal with trauma, and even if they are, that
doesn't mean they like it. No one is going to appreciate mopping up bits
of your head.
EVALUATION OF SELECTED COMMON METHODS
Shooting: Assuming minimal knowledge of anatomy, sufficient caliber, and
a steady hand, it's quick and certain alright, and probably painless too,
though it's hard to be sure. Discreet? Well, once you have the weapon in
hand, no one can stop you, so the question is moot.
Accessibility varies widely: obviously in the USA it's more accessible
than we'd like, but in the UK for example it could be nearly impossible.
Safety depends heavily on the choice of location. All in all, it wouldn't
be such a bad method, if it didn't make such a terrible mess.
Hanging: Not very quick or certain, with a decent chance of mere injury.
High marks for accessibility, but unfortunately the risk of detection is
also high, because hanging takes a while, unless you manage to break your
neck, which is relatively hard to do. Most people probably wouldn't consider
hanging painless, but obviously there's a minority who enjoy this type of
thing (see the classic British film "The Ruling Class" for example). No
one who has ever seen a choking victim would describe this method as "tidy".
Driving: A fine example of an unsafe method. What did all those totalstrangers
ever do to you? Cars are accessible enough, but collisions
have surprisingly low fatality rates, and usually aren't quick, painless,
or tidy.
Jumping: Fairly quick, depending on the height, but not all that certain.
You'd be astonished at how many people have survived outrageous jumps.
San Francisco's Golden Gate bridge draws jumpers from all over the world,
but the locals are hip, and many people are stopped in the act. This method
has a high probability of a making a truly disgusting mess.
Slashing: Unless you're a Marine, you probably don't have what it takes to
slice yourself deeply enough to do the job. There's a fine line between
self-mutilation and an actual suicide attempt. In most cases this method
is just a cry for help. Straight razors are accessible enough, but this
method is definitely not painless, certain or quick. It might look glamorous
in the movies, but don't be fooled: a bathtub full of blood is not a pretty
sight.
Drowning: Not particularly discreet except very isolated areas, and even
then it's advisable to do it at night. If you're a good enough swimmer to
get far enough out, it's fairly certain, especially in frigid water, but
it's not quick by any means. By some accounts it's moderately painless,
but where your bloated corpse will wind up, and to
what extent it will be chewed, is another matter.
Freezing: If you can manage to get above the timber line in winter andget
naked, this method has a good chance of success, but be careful to take public
transportation. People have been rescued by over-zealous park rangers who
were tipped off by an extra car in the parking lot. Unless you're in the
Arctic circle, it takes a while, but it's relatively painless once you get
past a certain point. Accessibility varies widely, but freezing gets high
marks for safety and tidiness, and is ideal for nature-lovers.
Overdosing: This is a huge topic, and beyond the scope of this text. Suffice
it to say that the lethal dosage for a given substance depends enormously
on the individual. In many cases the odds of organ damage are much higher
than the odds of death. Many attempts fail due to the human body's annoying
tendency to vomit when poisoned. Most experts recommend combining drugs
with alcohol and a garbage bag over the head, secured with an elastic.
Nitrous Oxide (NO2): When properly applied (using a mask or a garbage bag),
it's astoundingly quick and certain, and downright pleasurable (after all,
dentists use it). The hard part is getting the stuff. It takes a lot of
whippets to fill up a garbage bag, and it's difficult to get
a tank without posing as a legitimate business.
Oven Gas: This method is totally unacceptable, due to the obvious danger
of blowing up total strangers.
Car Exhaust: This is a fine example of a method that's reasonable in theory
but rarely works out in practice, because it's so hard to do discreetly.
A tube from your tailpipe to your car window is bound to attract attention.
Run your engine in your garage long enough, and you'll be visited
by a nosy neighbor. Sure it's painless, but failure means brain damage.
The active ingredient (Carbon Monoxide) is terrific; it's only the delivery
method that's a problem.
Carbon Monoxide: This gas binds to your hemoglobin better than oxygen.
In practice, this means you can breathe it as easily as oxygen, except that
you die. It's not as much fun as Nitrous Oxide but it's much easier to
obtain. The best way is with a tank from an industrial supply house
(see Jerry Hunt's video),
but acceptable concentrations can be obtained with indoor use of a charcoal
grill. The main problem is how to avoid killing whoever discovers you.
CONCLUSION
Suicide is hard work, and should not be undertaken lightly. It's easyto
do it badly, or make rookie mistakes. As with many things, the best results
are achieved by thorough research and careful preparation.

i agree with downlow... if you are dragging a good amount, normally you want a stiffer setup (bag over axle), you can ride lower and tap the ground less, but if you go with a cantilever setup, (2 link or 4 linke, 3 link or whatever) it rides nicer but you have less control when riding low. thats a bad run-on sentance... I peronsally perfer to ride harder... dayum that sounds gay. haha

even heating is better, but tourch with the bracing is probally fine if you take your time. The slower you bring up the temp and drop it the better you are. I've known some 4x4 people and some hot rodders take a week to cool off a part.

I think the only people you have to worry about is the state inspections, and most people that do it are 7 buck a hour guys and they don't care nor do they understand anything about custom, as long as when they drive it the brakes work and all the lights work, its ok.

[Suspensions]-[Air Ride Suspensions]-who sells mandrel frame rails?
wow, is this going to turn into a reverse 4 link debate? haha. Ok, when you bend your frame rails it stretches the metal so you have thin spots on the outside of the bend. The metal doesn't magically hop from the inside of the bend to the outside of the bend. Does it mean much to the typical guy here, nope, but it does to the hot rod guys and people that use their vehicles more than just driving on the street. I've used both, and either works well on 90% of all rides. I would not use a mandrel bent frame towing a 3 car hauler with my dually but would not think twice with a welded frame. Your typical hot rod doesn't have that issue, so either will work, and the people that that have enough HP to cause problems with it have roll cages to help trianglate everything. Welded frames are stronger, more even througout, and can be designed to any spec. your mandrel frame rails can be bent to your specs, but take longer to have someone to do it for you, (unless u have a bender and can do it yourself). Also to mention, normally most welded frames are thicker but not allways.
PS. Dusty- Sorry for jacking the thread into a discussion, either will work, but since its going under a truck if you want to stick with a mandrel, go with the thickest you can find, not only cause of not having a roll cage, but in the "real" world its allways best to have a little bit more frame for the people that like to rear end you and such. But with a sheet of 3/16 and some cardboard, you can have some flowing welded frame rails done in no time.

[Suspensions]-[Air Ride Suspensions]-who sells mandrel frame rails?
haha yuppers, I know...
NASCAR requires it and so does Super Trucks. NHRA allows bending on the back half of a Funny Car, but only if more metal is used. AWS (American Welding Society) certification requires a welder to prove that he/she can put down a bead as strong or stronger than the metal on either side of the weld. If you can't do that you can't get certified. A bend will never be as strong. Remember the last time you sat on cheap metal lawn furniture? It gives out at the bends, just like an Allen wrench does.

well crap, i guess I took 2 long and the responce to yours didn't take. Well, maybee twice that 10ish, and yes, those people have EVERY right to complain. Its just turned into a witch hunt and everyone that has never done buisness with him has jumped in 2 be a internet hero. I'm not trying to defend him if you never got your product, hell there is no way I could. I got screwed on shipping, but ow well, I had to go drive 3 hours each way to get 3 sets of control arms, I saw at least 50 arms there needing ball joint plates or something. He lacks buisness skills, and the that effects allot, from getting ball joint plates cut from the cnc cutter people to dealing with customers. All I can defend is what I saw. I hope the best for everyone that did place a order, and hope he does eventually make everything right with everone, but who knows....

Chad //NC MD\\ just buy Devious or Cando arms.
Well so far mine I have on my crew cab dually are working fine so far. Time will tell, but so far so good. I also had him narrow them a inch, and from what I have seen he was the only person that would do 1 off custom arms like that.

Yes it can, and while he did give some false hopes, a good amount of people did get their products. The problem is all the internet people that didn't even order anything, just talking crap to make them feel better. By looking at this post it looks like 100s of people never got their stuff and its really like 5ish. Many people have forgotten all the help he has given to minitruckers for years and years, without asking for a cent. He will be back someday, and if he does do this kind of work i'm sure he will run things differently.

Thats pretty bio. Doesn't everyone have 220? hell, i used my dryer outlet when I used to bag stuff out of my garage, it worked fine. It just boils down to experience, when I started I had NO experience and bought a grainger 220 volt crappy welder and just used common cents.. (not dollars) a cheap 220 isn't that much more than a 110 so if your starting just spend a few extra bucks to save yourself a headache. I've used a 110, but you have to have a bit more experience to make a good weld.

[Suspensions]-[Air Ride Suspensions]-control arm failure........
Fab work? no people like the bolt on, and if somethihng require fab work or doesn't do what they want, its the companies fault. That BYC arm was because of the over extention of the control arms, this is the owners fault for not limiting the lift but yes, its BYC issue also because it should have been built tougher for the people that don't know much about fab work. I've gotten a few sets of BYC arms and worked through what I havn't liked about them and now its working fine, its not that difficult, just spend some time looking at the way your suspension works and check everything before maxing out everything.
For the most parts... The majority of minitrucks are fine with stock arms. My toy sits flat with stock arms and spindles. Bobby's Older Toyota sits flat on 20's with stock arms. I've known isuzu owners that sat flat with 18's. What it comes down to is there may be fab work to get them to sit flat. On my truck its just different placement of the strut bar. Control arms are luxury items for most. I've seen many s-10 with 20's stock arms with spindles. If you aftermarket arms are hitting your frame then that is a design flaw. If you don't want to buy short rams get straps. If you are on bags and it does it, shorten your cups. Like I typed it comes down to some fab work.

[Trucks]-[Toyota Trucks]-Custom Tacoma Spindles!!!
I think control arms would be easier and cheaper to build. While I would perfer a spindle, when looking at the price most minitruckers are poor fuckers. 600 is deffinatly worth it for custom spindles, I have a hard enough time to get people to get 250 buck spindles around here. haha. I think you would be able to get more people to buy upper and lower control arms just cause they look cooler. Also do all tacos use the same spindle?

[Miscellaneous]-[Off-topic]-BODY SHOP IS TRYING TO SCREW ME! i need the auto community's help!
I'm in austin texas also. MANY years ago I had to get a insurance claim done on a honda and took it there. Yuppers, I took it back 3 or 4 times, body lines didn't line up, things still broken under the hood and the last time it was there the inner fender fell out so I just gave up. I should have waited and get my normal people to fix it but live and learn. They are con artists and don't give a rats fuck about customers. If you need something done, give me a holla, i have people here that can help u out.

use standard gear oil if any leaks out, but probally it won't. Go to a local bolt suppoly place (not home depot, but a place locally that speciallizes in bolts) and get some that are 1/4 longer. You can measure the depth of the hole and might be able to get some 1/2" longer though.

[Trucks]-[MiniTruckin General]-how do you build a 4 link
Edited: 10/8/2006 4:48:36 AM by havok The first one I did was about 10 years ago, Pete & Jakes kit, I think it was for a 34 ford or something, it came with some paperwork on how to set it up right. I'll see if I can find that old paper this week, it had some good info. Links are cheap enough and just not worth building, unless yer building allot of them or just happen to have lathes and such laying around.

[Trucks]-[MiniTruckin General]-best place to relocate battery?
Edited: 10/2/2006 12:24:46 AM by havok Some of the earliest buildings that could be called apartments were seen in ancient Rome and the cities of the Roman empire; five or six-story brick structures called "insulae" (islands) housed multiple families. However, as these cities fell to ruin, the concept of the apartment house disappeared until the 1800s, when European cities were getting crowded. At that time, particularly in France, the idea recurred.
The first American apartment building (as opposed to a boarding house) appeared in the United States in the 1850s. Gwendolyn Wright's Building the Dream claimed the first was in 1855 in Boston; it was called the Hotel Pelham. However, panamaus notified me of the two Pontalba Apartment Buildings in New Orleans, which were constructed 1848 to 1850 by the French baroness Micaela Pontalba.
The idea of having three or more sets of tenants under a single roof, with more than just a bedroom for each set, was controversial; it was seen as a flighty single or newlywed's way of putting off real domestic life. It was also seen as slightly risque to live all on the same floor and so close to one's neighbors. They were called "French flats" for some time, as a way to evoke sophistication and also because that's where the idea had come from. And the early "apartment-hotels" were aimed at the rich; by 1869 when the Stuyvestant Flats were being built in New York, their rents were $900 to $1800 per year, when the entire five-floor building had cost only $150,000 to build. (In addition to being popular, they made efficient use of scarce city real estate.)
In the latter half of the 1800s, apartment houses contained luxuries that most houses did not have yet, such as running water and central gas mains -- even electric lights run from a generator for the building, since there were no street lines before the 1890s. Most of them had, in addition to common laundry rooms, kitchens in the basement where food was made for all the occupants, to be delivered to their apartments; in fact, in 1878 a New York court ruled that the presence of central kitchen and other services was what made a building an apartment (high-class) rather than a tenement (definitely low-class). However, there were still some similarities to tenement buildings -- very few windows (or windows that opened out onto the air shafts instead of the outside), thin walls which let sound carry, dark halls, and cramped rooms. However, there were usually impressive public lounges where one could entertain.
Some people felt that apartment buildings were a step forward; authors like Edward Bellamy in his Looking Backward painted a future where everyone had the advantages of technology and centralized services. However, many others felt that apartments were slightly decadent, that they encouraged women, particularly, to neglect household duties, and that the close quarters encouraged promiscuity. Architects tried to counteract these impressions by putting servants' quarters on separate floors from their employers' apartments, adding a homey look to rooms by putting in fireplaces, and increasing privacy with better sound insulation. But as in Edith Wharton's book The Age of Innocence, the closeness of public and private areas in one person's home seemed "architectural incentives to immorality such as the simple American had never dreamed of. That was how women with lovers lived in the wicked old societies, in apartments with all the rooms on one floor, and all the indecent propinquities that their novels described."
By the beginning of the 1900s, apartment buildings in American cities were getting taller, and becoming more separate, with individual kitchens. By the 1920s, despite continued criticism from those who felt the crowded quarters stifled normal family relations, many cities had more apartments being built than single-family homes. They had became more middle-class by that point; a 1928 Chicago women's organization passed a resolution that "parents living in kitchenette apartments, presumably for economic reasons, but in reality because of the inconvenience of home-making in a cottage home or bungalow...be urged to become home owners for the sake of the younger generation." Ladies' Home Journal said apartments were a Bolshevik influence. However, despite the portrayal of a house as the real location of the American Dream, the apartment building was here to stay.

[Trucks]-[MiniTruckin General]-best place to relocate battery?
Nothing sticks to Teflon, so how does Teflon stick to the pan?
Before we dive into that, let's dispense with a technicality: Teflon was DuPont's original brand name for what now goes by various unattractive pseudonyms, such as "non-stick coated aluminum cookware," as well as a poetic variety of brand names. I'll call these slippery coatings "non-sticks."
In the early days, what the non-stick stuck to was a mechanical issue.
.
Manufacturers textured a pan by blasting its surface with grit, gouging little pits in the aluminum, or by spraying the cookware with a micro-lumpy ceramic coating or stainless steel, which formed mini-mountains as it hardened.
These textures gave the long, slippery non-stick molecules much more to brace themselves against. And when the non-stick wore off the peaks of the mini-mountains and micro-lumps there was still enough clinging to the slopes and valleys to keep the flapjacks flipping. Sort of.
Trouble was these methods didn't hold up very well under normal household use, leading to a chorus of feminine voices across America, singing out in harmony, "TOUCH THAT FORK TO THAT PAN AND YOU'RE A DEAD MAN." (To the credit of these women, of whom my grandmother is one, their 1964-vintage Teflon still appears virginal, while I have forked to death a long, sad series of pans.)
The bottom line was that the non-stick didn't stick to the pan long enough. So, back to the drawing board.
.
The basic non-stick molecule is a polymer, or chain, of fluorine atoms and additives such as carbon and hydrogen. The longer this chain, the tougher it is; but a molecule that's too long gets viscous and hard to handle.
To move beyond mere mechanics, the frying-pan engineers added a sticky molecule to the non-stick molecule. Non-stick was now applied in coats, with the bottom coat containing the sticky additive that held to both the metal pan and the non-stick molecules. A coat of non-sticky non-stick went over that, non-stick and non-stick clinging together lovingly. A final non-stick layer, spiked with teensy bits of ceramic or other tougheners, protected the softer guts.
This is how lots of non-sticks are made still: Grit-blast the pan; spray on a sticky primer coat, a midcoat, and a tougher top coat; and bake. Oh, yeah: Add colors if you like -- the fluoropolymer is naturally white, but cooks prefer somber saucepans. You may also add a handful of mica, a sparkly rock, to glimmer up the finish.
But the latest non-stick revolution, probably lost on cooks, is a non-mechanical means of sticking non-stick to aluminum. In this method, which DuPont calls "smooth technology," new-and-improved sticky molecules in the primer coat sink as the pan bakes and chemically lock themselves to smooth, unmolested metal. The upper layers fuse together better, and you get a tougher pan.
But even tough non-stick isn't very tough.
.
Each of the three coats is only about one one-thousandth of an inch thick, for starters. And non-stick softens as it heats, leaving forks as lethal as ever. Plus, raw non-stick is baked on at only about 800 degrees for four or five minutes, so you can toast it if you leave it on the burner with nothing in the pan. Then a rubber spatula, even in the hands of the gentlest grandmother, will slowly disentangle the long, slippery molecules and carry them away.
Which raises the question: Are there health consequences to ingesting all those non-stick molecules? Not to worry, says DuPont's Kris Mohan: We are, after all, talking non-stick. "It's completely inert, and it passes right through the body without interfering with anything."

16 guage works great. I brace all the trucks I do, just helps to keep the guessing out of it. nothing fance just some random angle iron, cross the cab, when I did my crew cab I also braced the B piller to keep the center from splitting appart.

as long as yer a 2 wheel drive, yer cool, don't get spindles, its not worth it unless yer trying to run a 20. 18" wheels, stock spindels work fine, don't waste your time. Start out by flipping the front ball joints, that helps just as much and doesn't cost anything. (as long as u have some hand tools and a grinder) You can see here in a tech article on bagging the front http://www.lowdowncustom.com/tutoriaux-d6.html how the lower ball joint is flipped to the top side of the ball joint. Do the same for the top and your set. im me or email me at phil@lowdowncustom.com if you have any questions.

[Trucks]-[MiniTruckin General]-a GOOD shop to fix a another shop's screwups
Edited: 8/1/2006 7:42:54 PM by havok LOL I've worked on one vehicle that came from extensive, mostly just to get it going back down the road, I know it went back there to get fixed right and it sat for a long time. Bad welds, shock mounts welded the inner fender sheetmetal with nothing to reinforce the sheetmetal. It was on a car, not a truck, so maybee thats the difference, It was 3-4 years ago at least. Probally just a single issue/incedent. Over all i've seen decent stuff from there.
I do hate their 2-links, but thats another topic all together.

[Trucks]-[MiniTruckin General]-BYC for clientele and workers ONLY!
I'm going to pop in and say what I know about all of this. Mike "did" have intentions to make people arms, etc, he does/did have a good amount of happy customers. I know when I went to visit him he DID have a crap load of arms all over the place, missing ball joint plates. I did have to go pick up arms from him, because of the run around many others have had. If he was just steeling money, he would have been able to pay other personal things that got behind. (which is no ones buisness here, but I guess everyone sees it as entertainment).
He sucked at running his buisness which is what sank him. Its unfortuanate, I know he helped ALLOT of people in the past, most of yall newbies don't know the hours and hours he had helped people before doing his BYC full time.
Maybee he will get back on his feet and make things right, but then again, he might not. I just wanted to clear up (if anyone listens to me) that I do know he was trying to keep his head above water and get everything out, guess he just had to much weight attached to him.

you can get axles drilled for the rear for under 200, or just swap out a narrower toy axle and be able to get bigger wheels under it. Front you can swap out the spindle to the toyota style, just redo the end of the the control arms.
The easier way is to buy the ready done setup from someone like john and not have to worry if this or that will brake. Just depends on how much $ and time u have.

[Trucks]-[MiniTruckin General]-closed bed class explain
Originally posted by pearldrop
I think the original reasoning for open and closed bed classes was to make it fair. 10-15 years ago an open bed truck was just a stock bed floor, no tubs, no smooth sheetmetal, maybe just exposed wheels (except for a very rare few).
But back then a closed bed truck had a walk-through, full carpet kit, huge stereo, a bar, or whatever else the person wanted.
It was very hard to compare the two. The closed bed trucks would just kill the open bed trucks at shows.
Yuppers, thats it. Back in the day when I had a big system it took up the whole bed, and used to be able to stomp on the open bed at shows where it was all the same. That was 10 years or so ago. LOL
