Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. Spent the past 17 hours working on the User Importer for the new site. For the most part it went very well. I did have one small issue come up though:
- Duplicate Email Addresses
Duplicate Email Addresses
Going forward, duplicate email addresses will not be allowed. I don't really care about the having multiple accounts issue (against the terms of service), but in the new registration system, we will have it set to not allow duplicates.
The bad news (always has to be some of that somewhere) - one or more of your accounts will not be transferred over to the new system. The one that will be transferred over will be the one that you last logged into. To make sure that all of your accounts transfer over, please make sure to log on and change the email address on your additional accounts.
New Password Requirements
To help better secure our user accounts, we are requiring that all passwords be a minimum of 6 characters in length (and this is even too short in my opinion). Those of you that have passwords that are too short, will have to change them when you first log on to the new site. Here are some general guidelines on passwords (not required, just guidance):
- Minimum 6 characters
- At least 1 non-Alphanumeric character, e.g. ! or /
- At least 1 Number
- At least 1 capital letter
When the new site is released, if you have problems logging in, you can reset your password. The new process for password changes will include emailing you a verification link. Click the link in the email and you will be taken to a page to enter a new password. Don't worry, it's tamper proof and your new password is not being sent plain text in email.
As we get closer to the release, I will post more about potential problems and things to look out for.
