I've been a member for a good time also and I'm a big fan for the small shops in our scene. I've purchased stuff from members and shops mentioned here. I have had the best experiences with the smaller shops and a less than pleasant with the bigger businesses. go figure....Basically, im up for seeing more shops advertising on here..saves me time from tooling around the web.... my 2EURO cents...

I'm a huge fan of the small business shops. Not everyone can afford to pollute a magazine with 10 pages of ads. Not everyone can even afford a small ad in a magazine.

That is why we want to do something specifically for the smaller shops or shops that are on a tighter budget. If we offer a vendor list, combined with a specific vendor section (specific meaning ANY vendor can offer their goods there) along with a reasonable price, I think it would be a win-win for all of us.

The sponsored forums are great, it gives those businesses a specific place to conduct business and to respond to customer concerns (questions, complaints, etc), but that is not for everyone. It is more expensive to do, but they get their own forum that they moderate and a larger banners.

I've seen the model we are going to work very well on at least 5 forums I can think of off the top of my head. I think it will be successful here as well. Once Bob gets back, we will chat internally and then list the details of the new membership system for all to see. We can answer specific questions @ that time to alleviate everyone's concerns. Things will be drastically different, but first and foremost we will not screw any existing paying members. Their memberships will still be valid and more importantly still relevant.

Thanks for all the good feedback, this has been exactly what I've been looking for. Please keep it coming - this site is about it's users and giving the users what they want while still being able to keep things realistic for us. While we can't service every request, we will at least listen and provide a reason as to why would not be able to fulfill it.

Any new news on the site update?

The only news I have is that the new site will be released on Jan 1, 2012. The features I outlined above have not changed or expanded yet.

Okay great to hear!

Wish we had known earlier that AIM was gone he did drive many away from the site. Can't wait to see the changes.

He was just removed earlier this week. So this has not been this way for long Fester. Shall we advertise Fester's Garage as well, LOL.

I can't say I am unhappy AIM is gone. I spent considerable efforts on this site trying to make two parties play nice together on a public forum. I took personal hits to do this, personal attacks often made my way for it. People asked me why I did it all of the time. It was simple. I more than anyone else involved at the time I think (no offense intended), wanted to see SSM stick around. So I guess the time with AIM here was a means to the end. I hold no personal ill will at anyone involved with that drama or AIM. It was a dark time here, and a lot of people made snap judgments based on half truths and that was a shame. But sometimes the bigger picture is hard to see.

Thought's going forward. I am behind Goose and Bob 100% as far as making this site what it never was. I do think it will be a rough road ahead, forums/chat rooms/blogs as a whole all around the world are less active than they were just a short time ago. I think whatever SSM does has to be epic fast. Like as its happening type of thing. As far as the magazine goes, an internet magazine can only be effective when the content is relevant, on time, and consistent. Relevant a few years ago was months. Today its days, maybe even hours. If SSM can bring the info/content like this then it would be a hit, anything less could be more of the same.

I am hopeful though, and back it 100%. I have given SSM a ton of my time and I wan't nothing more than it to be completely different than it EVER has been.

Peace,
Brandt

Thats very shitty, but not suprising. But, now you can see it from the eyes of the people that were all ways complaining about being screwed, but didnt get to voice it.

I would love to Help contribute to advertising, but i wanted nothing to do with it when AIM was involved. The size of my business does not support much revenue for any advertising, but this site would be my first choice, and i hope to be able to make it work. Ive been a member here for 10 years now, and I all ways will be. I will gladly pay for memberships to Help contribute, and hopefully be able to contribute with some advertising as well. All i ask for is freedom of speach!!! LOL

x10!!!! I'm pretty much in the same boat as Taylor. I've been a member for to many years to even remember and my membership is up tomorrow actually. I also may be interested in advertising but realistically its going to come down to the price.
--------------------------------------------

Chris - I will have Bob get a hold of you as well. PM me with your information if you don't mind. We are trying to become more friendly to the small business guys. One thing you notice with a lot of forums is that they only let people that are "yellow star" (business) members post up ads in specific forums. If you look at Pirate 4x4 or Jk Owners forums you can see what I am talking about. The cost of the star is $100/yr. It does not give that business a sponsored forum, but it does give them the right to post up goods they sell in specific forums. Here is an example: http://www.jkowners.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=15. Notice the forum is named "Vendor's Marketplace". What would be your thoughts on something like that for the small business guys?

As long time members, I would like to chat with you guys and get some input on some ideas we are tossing around. Can you guys hop in chat tonight?

--------------------------------------------

I'll try an shoot you my info sometime today/tonight. Also i'm always up for bouncing ideas off of so if we can setup a time or something i'll make sure to be around... I am a member of Pirate so I know exactly how the yellow star system works over there. And for anyone who thinks this site is bad (negativity, sarcasm, and general douche baggery LOL) take a trip over to Pirate..... it makes SSM look like unicorn tears and fairy spinkles! On a positive note, the Pirate site works and no matter when I am on it there are always TONS of people on it and there is a ton of knowledgeable assholes there as well, lol.

I'm on Pirate and JK Owners (built off Pirate) as well. Two of my favorite places to hang out. Its a place that you better be prepared to get your ass handed to you if post something. I don't want that here, but I do want that wealth of knowledge that it brings. There are some really smart guys over there.

I'll hit you up soon so we can talk. Probably call you next week.

Not sure how many of you know this, but we barely make enough to keep this site going. membership renewals are not steady, nor are they enough each month to cover our costs.

How much of your costs are actual web hosting costs? I work for a largish hosting company and would be happy to donate some server space. PM me, and I can Help you out.

I just wanted to give everyone an update on what is going on. Yesterday I was in the emergency room for stress induced diabetic complications. One of the things that come out of this was I need to slow down a bit to reduce stress in my day to day life. Due to this, I am not going to make the Jan 1 deadline I set for myself.

So when will there be a new site? Well good question. I would like to release the new site in stages as a beta, side by side with the existing site. I will release the initial beta version in on or before January 1st. As new features are added / released, I can get real time feedback from you guys about the changes.

The two sites are not powered by the same back end, so changes to one will not be reflected in the other. But do not worry, before the beta site is finally released as the production site, we will take the old site down, sync the data, and then make the beta production.

I hope everyone understands that for me, this is about my health and still living up to my commitments.

i actually had a free account on here a few years ago and i got on everyday for a few months or so my username was mt4lyfe if anyone remembers. i couldnt stand all of the drama that AIM was bringing to the site and to the scene in general. the way that they run there bussiness is absolutely terrible. i did however see brandt doing everything he could to resolve the issues as best as he could and it pissed me off how people would then turn around and get pissed off at him for trying to make this site better for everyone including AIM. i have alot of respect for all of the street source staff, without them we wouldnt have the knowledge or know how that we do today and more importanly make as many friends as we do here. yesterday i was informed from a friend that AIM was officially taken off the site a while ago so i made a new account as soon as i got near my computer. i just want to say thanks for doing everything that yall can to make this site a drama free site and for everything that you guys do for the scene. i plan on eventually upgrading my membership whenever i can afford to because i love how the site is running now. i was on all night last night and saw no drama and thats exactly how it should stay. so once again thanks street source staff for everything you guys do for the scene and this website!

Hey Jon thanks for coming back to Street Source we did realize that we have had few people on here that were problems and maybe we made a mistake buy let one advertise come on the site. At the end of the day he was hard to deal with and we decided it was time to part ways. I know we don't have the bashing going on anymore. Which we as a group were getting tired of. We are working to get Street Source back on track. I really enjoy the site and meeting some of these guys at events. So thanks again for your support.
