People often ask me what's coming for StreetSource, so we will use this thread to discuss that. Below is a list of things we have currently planned. Please keep in mind this is a 50000 ft. view and that some items might not have their details completely fleshed out.

We welcome all feedback and will take it all under consideration.

New Features

Social Networking
We plan on providing integration for Facebook and Twitter. This will include:

  • Sharing tweets and wall posts
  • Posting on Facebook and/or Twitter when you update your profile, add or update an owners profile, mark another users profile as a favorite.
  • Share links from site with Facebook or Twitter.

Forum
The forums are going to be given a complete face lift. We are either going to re-write them or use an off the shelf product. The current forums are not user friendly and really not mobile friendly. If we switched to an off the shelf version, we could provide better integration with mobile devices via the TapTalk program (available for iPhone and Android).

Blog
Coming soon we will be adding a blog for StreetSource. We plan on blogging about new features on the site, new products or trends in the scene, and general bullshit.

Photo Uploads
To provide a better user experience we are going to be making heavy use of HTML5. One of the things it can do is allow multiple files to be uploaded at one time (old news) along with the ability to drag them straight from your file system (new hotness). To help with this, users will need to use a modern web browser. That would be Google Chrome or Mozilla FireFox. At this time, Microsoft Internet Explorer does not support dragging and dropping for file uploads. If this changes, it will be added to the list.

Registration
We are going to shorten the registration process to only ask for your Username, Password, DoB, and email address. We will collect other mandatory information upon the first log on of the user. User will now need to verify their registration

User Profile
When the new site is released, all users will be required to re-accept the Terms of service as well as fill out the core pieces of their User Profile. This will be limited to the basic information and will guide the user through completing their profile. Allow updates to your profile information, user photos, or additions to your favorites to be broadcast on Facebook and/or Twitter.

Owner Profiles
Wanna let your friends know about your latest photos or your newest project? Blast it out on Facebook and Twitter. Wanna let everyone see the progress of your project? Show them the latest build photos? The create a build log and update it as you make progress. Mark another users owner profile and tell all your friends about it.

Owner Videos
Create video galleries by uploading your own videos or embedding from YouTube and Vimeo. Let your friends know about it, how? By Facebook and Twitter.

Membership Levels
We will be changing the membership levels up. Nothing too drastic. Just some renaming as well as adjusting what each membership level is allowed to do. Some of the premium features will only be available to paying members or may have limited functionality for free members. Once we have finalized the features, we will post up in more detail.

Magazine
It's coming back. It is something that never should've gone away, but it did. It's time to get it going again. As we work out more details, we will let you know.

Mobile Devices and Tablets
Once the site is up and going again, we plan on making an app for Android devices. Sorry iPhone users, I don't feel like paying $500 a year for the privilege of writing software for their devices. What you will be happy about is the fact the site will be based on HTML5 and CSS3, it will render better on your phones browser.

That's it for now. As the features expand or details become clearer, we will update the list.

The only news I have is that the new site will be released on Jan 1, 2012. The features I outlined above have not changed or expanded yet.

Not even close homeboy. IPhone, IPad, and IPod users account for less than 9% of the total users of this site. Here are the top 5.

  • Windows - 72%
  • Mac OS - 8%
  • Android - 8%
  • IPhone - 6%
  • IPad - 2%

Our strategy is to make use of HTML5 / CSS3 which provides better rendering across all devices. This is what you are starting to see the top apps for IOS and Android go to. This means we do not have to write apps specific to each device because we will provide a better mobile browsing experience.

That was actually a side effect of taking AirBagIt.com off the site. Their banner ad was placed there. Personally I like the way that section moved over. Gave it some more room and made it not look so cramped.

You can expect more things like this from the new design. We are optimizing it for better advertising display (ads are what keep this site alive) and a better user experience (UX).

Yes Joe decided in August that he no longer wanted to advertise with us, one little problem, he never told us until Sept. 26th. So he decided that since HE knew about it in August, HE would NOT pay us for September. So if you think you are the only ones that have been screwed by AIM, you're not. We've been too.

Not sure how many of you know this, but we barely make enough to keep this site going. membership renewals are not steady, nor are they enough each month to cover our costs. We mostly rely on the banner ads (which I hate, but they are a necessary evil) to Help us pay the bills. Neither Bob, Garrick, or myself make any money from the site. So why do we do this? Because we believe in the site and we see great potential in it once it gets back on course.

Because we rely on advertisers, it hurts the site when someone decides to screw us like Joe did. I'm not one to air dirty laundry normally, but I just wanted to let everyone know you are not alone.

Thats very shitty, but not suprising. But, now you can see it from the eyes of the people that were all ways complaining about being screwed, but didnt get to voice it.

I would love to Help contribute to advertising, but i wanted nothing to do with it when AIM was involved. The size of my business does not support much revenue for any advertising, but this site would be my first choice, and i hope to be able to make it work. Ive been a member here for 10 years now, and I all ways will be. I will gladly pay for memberships to Help contribute, and hopefully be able to contribute with some advertising as well. All i ask for is freedom of speach!!! LOL

Trust me I've known about Joe for years, when it was Ratical Tops. I'm and arizona native and cannot count how many times he has screwed the locals over the years.

I for one am not going to miss him.

As far as freedom of speech is concerned, I'm all for it as long as it is respectful. As you might have seen with the Cando thread, I'll let it go for a while before I pull the plug. What ultimately killed that one was a bunch on people who've never done business with him chiming in about how messed up it was or this and that. Was not needed, the original poster got his point across and we were able to Help him get it resolved.

With regards to the sponsored forums, each sponsor has the right to remove posts from their forum. While it is not something I agree with, it is something we allow. And since I've been here, I've only seen posts from the aim forum get removed. The others handle their customer service in a pretty transparent manner, which is great.

I hope we can Help you with the advertising. I fired off that email to Bob, so we'll see where we go from there. I personally would like to support the smaller local shops. It supports our scene and helps support the local scenes.

Thank you for your membership as well, we value each and every one of our members. Whether they are a paying member or not. I am a 11 year member myself and love the site. I'm thrilled to be apart of it and hopefully can bring it greater success than it has had in the past.

x10!!!! I'm pretty much in the same boat as Taylor. I've been a member for to many years to even remember and my membership is up tomorrow actually. I also may be interested in advertising but realistically its going to come down to the price.

Chris - I will have Bob get a hold of you as well. PM me with your information if you don't mind. We are trying to become more friendly to the small business guys. One thing you notice with a lot of forums is that they only let people that are "yellow star" (business) members post up ads in specific forums. If you look at Pirate 4x4 or Jk Owners forums you can see what I am talking about. The cost of the star is $100/yr. It does not give that business a sponsored forum, but it does give them the right to post up goods they sell in specific forums. Here is an example: http://www.jkowners.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=15. Notice the forum is named "Vendor's Marketplace". What would be your thoughts on something like that for the small business guys?

As long time members, I would like to chat with you guys and get some input on some ideas we are tossing around. Can you guys hop in chat tonight?

Anyone that is interested in Advertising should PM me or Bob (ssm-bobhase) with your details. If we get enough interest and support, we will roll out our new program early (for businesses that is).
